Val Thomas, 59, stopped breathing at 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, and her family called paramedics. While they waited for help to arrive, they tried to revive her while others prayed. They estimate that she was without a heartbeat or oxygen for 15-20 minutes before she was put on a ventilator and transported to a Charleston, West Virginia hospital.
Doctors put her on a machine to lower her body temperature, in effect inducing hypothermia. Her heart stopped three times causing doctors to estimate that her chance of survival was less than 10%. She was kept on life support of nearly 18 hours while the family considered organ donation, prayed and said their final goodbyes. While they gathered around the bedside of Val Thomas, a nurse removed her breathing tube and disconnected her from various machines. Ten minutes into the process she moved her arm and started to speak to the nurse.
The miraculous recovery of a woman who had no neurological function for 18 hours is baffling to the woman’s attending physicians. They performed a ‘heart cath’ on the patient on Wednesday, May 21, to determine the level of damage to Val’s heart. They found no blockage or damage. She has been sent on to the Cleveland Clinic to further investigate what appears to be an electrical problem within her heart.
Val Thomas said, “I know God has something in store for me, another purpose. I don’t know what it is but I’m sure he’ll tell me.”
Amazing.

The media has totally messed up alot of the story. WHy they do this I will never know but it is really bothering me that it got so twisted. I am the neice of Val Thomas. I was there the whole time she was in the hospital and checked on her often throughout the day. At 1:30 am on the 17th of May, Val had a heart attack at home (while she was alone). She was able to call her son right before her heart stopped. when they say she was without oxygen for 15-20 minutes, that was the time it took for any medical attention to reach her. Her door was locked at the time and they had to bust it down to get to her. When they finally got to her she was not breathing and had no pulse. she also was grey. They worked on her for 8 minutes and were able to get a very faint pulse. They intibated her in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. Upon arriving at the hospital she was put on a ventillator and they induced her into a hypothermic state. After doing so she had 2 more heart attacks and had to recieve CPR each time. At no point in time did she have brain activity and an EEG was performed twice to prove so. There were also various other tests performed. After her third heart attack, the doctors told us that she had less than 10% chance of survival and that if she did survive she would have major brain damage and possibly be in a vegetative state. It was then that her son Tim made the decision to take her off of life support. As the family said their goodbyes val had no pulse, no blood pressure, and no brain activity. Her shoulders had started to curl inward, her toes and hands had already started to curl, her pupils were fixated, and her skin was hardened. She had every possible sign of being dead. I was one of the last to say goodbye to her and while I was in there my pastor asked the nurse to check one more time just to make sure she was really gone. She checked her groin, neck, and wrist for a pulse and there was nothing. She also checked her blood pressure again and it wouldn't even register on the machine. After the family had gone home, the nurse went in to prepare her for the morgue. She turned off the ventillator and walked out of the room. She returned 10 minutes later and took the tube out of her mouth. When she did so, that is when Val raised her hand to her mouth, took a breath and asked for her son. The nurse then checked her vitals and everything was NORMAL! Today she is walking, talking, and is back to her old self. This is truly a miracle from GOD! To any of you who want to say mean things about what happened, and try to play this off as a blunder in modern medicine, my only wish is that you could have been there before and after. My only hope is that you would repent and accept God into your life. This is truly a MIRACLE!! God Bless You All!!!
