A man named Gokhan Mutlu claims, JetBlue Airways made him sit in the bathroom for part of his flight and for their disregard for his safety and “flush” with anger has filed a $2 million lawsuit against the airline. A flight attendant originally volunteered to sit in a “jump seat” so Mutlu could make it onto the flight. But the flight attendant had a change of heart once the flight took off. In court papers, Gokhan said the pilot of his fully seated Feb. 28 flight cross-country from San Diego to New York ordered him to give up his seat to the flight attendant who now decided she wanted to be more comfortable than she was in her jump seat. Whatever happened to making the customer more comfortable?

They told him he could take a seat in the toilet instead. The pilot told him the jumper seat was for personnel only so he couldn’t just trade with the flight attendent. When Mutlu began to argue, the pilot “became angry at the plaintiff’s reluctance to take his place in the rest room and he took a much harsher tone with the plaintiff, advising him that he was the pilot, that this was his plane, under his command, and that the plaintiff should be grateful for being onboard,” the suit says. The suit says Mutlu’s humiliation “rose to new heights” when he cracked open the bathroom door and was laughed at by two male flight attendants who told him, “Just go back in there.” Gokhan sat in the bathroom for the remaining 3.5 hours of the flight until there was turbulence and he was ordered back to his seat.

“Plaintiff walked back to his seat embarrassed, humiliated, mortified, disgraced degraded and still shocked beyond belief,” and tried “to cover his face” as he walked up the aisle, the court papers say.

The suit further claims the pilot had the nerve to stop the plaintiff as he was walking out “and asked if everything was okay”. The plaintiff replied, ‘No.’”

Methinks the pilot realized he might be in some hot water a little too late. JetBlue would not comment on the pending suit.
