This kind of blows my mind. The Huffington Post has more information about it. They say Muslims in Western India’s Maharastra have been throwing babies off tall buildings for over 500 years with the belief that it improves their health, and that no babies have ever been hurt.

Muslims in western India have been observing a bizarre ritual - they’ve been throwing their young children off a tall building to improve their health. The faithful have been observing the ritual at a shrine in Solapur, in western India’s Maharastra, for more than five hundred years. They believe it will make their children strong and say no accidents have ever happened.

[From The Huffington Post]

When babies can get brain damage from being shaken hard, you have to wonder if someone should step in and tell them that some traditions are best left in the past. This is crazy, and just because something is a religious practice doesn’t mean it should be allowed. Nor do I buy for one minute that no babies have been hurt. I’ve bet some have suffered minor neck and brain injury given how far they’re falling.

Please keep the comments respectful and don’t disparage entire groups of people or religious beliefs. This is the practice in one area of India by some Muslims, not all Indians, not all Muslims, and not all Muslim Indians.

Jawdropping! omg
